MailView V1.10 by Malcolm Weller 14/6/96 MailView is an off-line mail reader that provides an easy method of managing mail downloaded from Compuserve using the ThreeCIS application. Both sent and received mail are displayed in a date sorted list along with Author and Subject information. Mail can be searched for, viewed replied to, resent, forwarded or deleted. Backup files are kept of all revised or deleted data until MailView is closed when an option to delete them is presented. CONTENTS 1) THE MAIL LIST 2) MENU, Options. 3) READING THE MAIL 4) PROGRAM SPECIFICATIONS 5) INSTALING THE PACKAGE 6) LICENCING, REGISTRATION AND SUPPORT. 1) THE MAIL LIST This screen displays a list of mail that has been sent and received. The list can be scrolled up and down with the cursor keys or Page Up and Down. A flashing cursor marks the selected item. Press the MENU key to see the following options; 2) MENU, Options. [MAIL] All the following options work with the mail item selected by the flashing cursor. [Read] the mail item. [Reply/Forward/Resend] to the author of the note [Delete] The mail item from the list and the file on disk. [Information] Display information about the mail item. [Exit] Quit from MailView [[Mail Lists]] The following options work on the whole Mail List. [View the Out Tray] This option displays a list of mail that is waiting to be sent. Included in the list are files titled "\CIS\*.OUT" which may be mail items you are writing but do not wish to send yet. Only files titled "\CIS\MAILx.OUT" (where x=1,2,3,4,5) will be sent by ThreeCIS. [Process new mail] After using ThreeCIS, any outgoing mail will be in files titled "\CIS\MAILx.OUT" (where x=1,2,3,4,5) and incoming mail will be in a file titled "MAIL!.CIS". These files are renamed by this option using the current date and moved to the "\CIS\ARCHIVE\" directory. The new items are then added to the mail list. If some outgoing mail has not been sent for some reason (eg. MAIL4.OUT and MAIL5.OUT were not sent due to a communication error) you will have the option not to process these files and then rename them (eg. to MAIL1.OUT and MAIL2.OUT) ready for the next logon with ThreeCIS. If any Internet headers are found in the incoming mail then the option will be given to remove the header to save storage space. [Re-compile the mail List] If the mail list becomes corrupted or lost for any reason it can be recompiled by this option although this process may take quite a few minutes. If any mail files are found that contain no mail items you will be given the option to delete them. [[Utilities]] [Read help file] Read this help file. [Registration] MailView is shareware, which means you can try the program before deciding to purchase it, and you may give copies of the trial version to other Psion Series 3a users to try. The trial version of MailView will manage up to 20 mail items. To obtain the full benefit of the program and management of 200 or more mail items, please register your use of the program. Please see the section below titled LICENCING, REGISTRATION AND SUPPORT. [Split a large 'Mail!.In' file] Some mail files are greater than 40KB which, while they can be viewed by MailView, cannot be loaded into WORD. If you require to load the mail items into WORD, this option will split the file into individual files of 1 mail item each with a name corresponding to the current date plus a unique alpha character. [List a file] Large text files can be read using this utility. [[Search]] [Jump to Item] To jump directly to a mail item use Psion-J and enter the item number. [Find Text] To search the list for a string of text use Psion-F [Find Text Again] To find the next matching string use Psion-G [Filter on Name] To list only those items sent to or received from one person. To restore the full mail list, delete the filter string. 3) READING THE MAIL The mail text can be scrolled up and down with the cursor keys or Page Up and Down. Long lines may be sen by scrolling left or right with the cursor keys or to the begining or end of the line with the Home and End keys. The font may be zoomed with the Psion-Z or Psion-Shift-Z key sequences. The font style can be switched to Mono with Psion-M or proportionaly spaced with Psion-P. 4) PROGRAM SPECIFICATIONS MailView has been written on the Psion Series 3a and is only expected to run on that machine. The software will currently manage up to 200 mail items. If you do not use ReadCIS and have no mail items in files named *.CIS or *.OUT in either \CIS\ or \CIS\ARCHIVE\ directories on any drive then MailView will not run. 5) INSTALING THE PACKAGE MailView.ZIP ZIPped with PKZIP.EXE V2.04g for DOS Contains 4 files; FileName Description Copy to MAILVIEW.OPO The MailView program file. \OPO\ MAIL1.OUT A sample outgoing mail file \CIS\ MAIL!.CIS A sample incomming mail file \CIS\ MAILVIEW.TXT The help file. \OPD\ Once these files have been installed the MailView program will appear under the RunOpl program icon. If you do not have a RunOpl application icon (it looks like a speach bubble with OPL written in it) then you can install one from the system screen menu, by pressing Psion-J and selecting the RunOpl application before pressing enter. When you first start MailView there will be no mail in the list. The 2 sample mail files may be added to the list by selecting the 'Process new mail' option (only use the 'Recompile mail list' option if the mail list has become corrupt).
